Sprained Ankle Recovery

Sprained ankle recovery takes more time for some people, while others can recover much faster. While there is no set-in-stone method for determining how long it will take you to get over this type of injury, here is some information that can give you a general idea.

Speeding Your Sprained Ankle Recovery

The best way to make your sprained ankle recovery go as fast as possible is to speak with a doctor to determine the right course of treatment. He or she will need to know what you were doing when you suffered the injury, because that will help determine the best course of action. While most sprains do not require surgery, there are rare instances where a surgical procedure will be needed. (Tramadol)

Treatment

The type of treatment you receive will depend largely on the severity of the injury. Ankle sprains are classified into one of three groups: Grade I, Grade II and Grade III. If you have a Grade I sprain, you will probably only have to follow the R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compression, elevation) treatment method. Rest the ankle as much as possible, ice it 20 minutes a time a few times a day, use a bandage to compress the area so it does not swell, and elevate it over your heart or waist when you are resting.

If you have a Grade II sprain, you will need to not only employ the R.I.C.E. method but you may also need a splint to immobilize and protect the ankle. If you have a Grade III sprain – the most serious classification – then there is a chance your ankle could be permanently unstable if you do not have it treated properly. You may need a short cast or walking boot, or you may need surgery.
